and a little different today! I made this journal and matching card for a wonderful friend to give her sister as a gift. I consider it a bit out of my creative comfort zone, but that’s whats so great about creating for others – getting to enjoy another’s tastes and what makes them happy – ah ha! Anyway, I saw the Moxie Fab World’s Fun With Fabric Challenge and thought I couldn’t pass it up, especially since I already had something made! I can’t wait to see what others come up with for this one!!!!!
Here’s a close-up of the journal: (go on, click on the pic to get a closer look!)
The fabric I used came in a charm pack (variety of 5 inch square pieces usually for quilting). I adhered the pieces I liked to a piece of cardstock using Heat N Bond and then cut the circles out using my EK Success Circle Cutter. Some are a bit frayed at the edges, but I was ok with that because I was attempting to embrace an artsy, semi-tattered look. Most pieces have two fabric circles layered on them. I crumpled and distressed some, ran some through the sewing machine, added eyelets, buttons, and brads, and did a bit of stamping. Just playin’, you know? The medallion in the lower right-hand corner was stamped with Staz-On onto a transparency and then layered over the fabric. The “e” was added on top of that. My favorite part (that I wish I had a better pic of) is the closure. It’s a big chunk of a canvasy-type ribbon adhered to the back of the book. The circle on the front was adhered to the ribbon with a little magnet in between. The magnet schzoops (because that’s what magnets do) to another magnet hidden under the cardstock on the cover. Lots of words, little concept. Sorry.
The card was mainly made from leftover pieces from the book, just repeating similar elements. Again, I adhered the red fabric to cardstock with Heat N Bond, but then ran it through my Cuttlebug with an embossing folder. Don’t cha know you can emboss fabric, too?!?!? Yeah, I didn’t.
And here’s a little group shot of the ensemble, ready for my friend to gift:
